Blu Cypress Solutions and HeloEvac welcome Acadian Air Med as primary flight service provider

When Blu Cypress Solutions and HeloEvac laid out their blueprint for company operations, one idea remained constant – Seek out the best people, and establish relationships with the best companies to deliver the best solution for our clients.

Blu Cypress Solutions and HeloEvac methodically and skillfully developed the HeMEP policy and its included emergency flight subscription program. Having created a superior product, the companies knew they wanted nothing less than to utilize an equally superior air med service provider in their program.  Acadian Air Med fit the vision perfectly.

HeloEvac’s COO, E.H. “Bo” Underwood III had this to say regarding a relationship with Acadian Air Med —

“When I became COO for HeloEvac, we wanted to secure “best in class” air ambulance services and that is why we targeted Acadian Air Med as our primary service provider. Their fleet of aircraft, base locations, and employee talent are second to none in the Gulf of Mexico.”

In March of 2024, Underwood, along with Blu Cypress Solutions and HeloEvac CEO, Christian Kelly, and Chairman, Jerald W. Lowrimore spearheaded efforts to initiate a relationship between HeloEvac and Acadian Air Med. By September of 2024, all parties finalized terms of the relationship. Blu Cypress Solutions and HeloEvac CEO, Christian Kelly had this to say, regarding the relationship with Acadian Air Med –

“We are proud to partner with Acadian Air Med, whose exceptional expertise and commitment to safety make them a trusted leader in medical evacuation services. Their reliability and professionalism provide critical support in safeguarding the well-being of offshore workers in the Gulf of Mexico. Together, we are enhancing safety standards and ensuring peace of mind for those we serve.”

About Acadian Air Med

History

Louisiana features a diverse geography of rich swamps, bayous, marshlands, and vast rural areas, as well as proximity to offshore platforms, that makes a quick response by ground ambulances a difficult task. As a result, Acadian Ambulance launched a helicopter ambulance service, known as Acadian Air Med, in 1981.

By 1989, Air Med was also utilizing fixed-wing aircraft for extended emergency and non-emergency patient transports throughout Central and North America. Today, Air Med flies more first-response missions than any other air medical service in the United States from bases throughout Louisiana.

Fleet and Crews

Air Med’s fleet of EC-135 helicopters, Beechcraft King Air turboprops and Bombardier Learjet 45 aircraft is equipped with advanced lifesaving equipment, including blood units, and staffed by expert flight paramedics, nurses and pilots.

Air Med staffs highly skilled critical care flight nurses and paramedics to care for emergency patients. Their nationally registered medical teams are trained by Acadian’s Critical Care Transport (CCT) program to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care possible. Air transportation pilots and maintenance are provided by Metro Aviation, Inc., based in Shreveport, LA.

Specialty care transport teams are able to work with adult and pediatric patients.

Operations and Capabilities

Acadian Air Med’s capabilities and resources allow them to provide the highest possible level of pre-hospital emergency medical care and disaster response to not only urban areas, but even the most remote parts of the Gulf of Mexico, coastal swamps, and remote forest regions.

Their sister company, Safety Management Systems, has a long history of providing remote paramedic services in the Gulf of Mexico. The combined capabilities of the divisions provide a strong focus on safety for offshore workers, as well as seamless communication and medical direction.

Operational Control

The Acadian Ambulance communications network allows direct radio or telephone contact with emergency room physicians and nurses at receiving hospitals in order to coordinate the fastest patient care possible.

Air Med’s dedicated flight coordinators handle all air and ground transportation, make arrangements with the receiving facility, communicate directly with family members, and update medical teams at both sending and receiving facilities throughout the flight.
